Bio
Growing up Melanie was a track athlete, her focus was the 400m hurdle event and came 3rd in her age group at the South African National Championships. She’s always had an active lifestyle training for competitions and events, but it wasn't until she moved to the United States that she found triathlon. She was eager to learn new skills and decided to approach the sport with an open mind and going all out. A close friend encouraged her to sign up for the Ironman 70.3 Gulf Coast as her first triathlon. With help from friends getting the right gear and training plan, she finished her first triathlon, got 3rd place in her age group and qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships.
Melanie’s coaching philosophy focuses on positive reinforcement and uses that skill to help athletes be the best versions of themselves. For Melanie coaching an athlete is about balancing the challenges of triathlon training, career and family life. She works with dedicated triathletes from beginner level to World Championship qualifiers. With smart achievable goals, together she will work as a team with the athlete to reach their fullest potential while having fun at it.

"As someone new to the world of triathlons, I really did not know how to train to improve the 3 disciplines as one and I was struggling with knee and heel pains. Melanie took the time to understand my sport and medical histories and designed a customized plan for me.
She consistently communicated with me to assess progress and make necessary adjustments. Thanks to her guidance and knowledge, my pains have significantly decreased, and my overall performance has improved beyond what I thought was possible at 55 years old.
Working with Melanie has truly put me in the best shape of my life, and I'm excited to see where my future training with her will take me."

"Melanie is the best coach! She took me from a weak sprint distance base to completing a 70.3 in three months, no injuries, and having an absolute blast.
Melanie pushes me to go outside my comfort zone, which makes me a better athlete. She is patient, encouraging, and smart, and also knows how to motivate an athlete to strive for better! When I started, running more than a 5k seemed daunting, now, I run almost 6 miles on a Tuesday morning.
I am on my way to my first full distance Ironman race, something I never thought I could do.
Before Coach Melanie, I had no training structure, now, I look forward to every Sunday when the training schedule goes up for the week. I find myself always striving for improvement, wanting to go farther, faster. All because of Coach Melanie!"
